– ART AND MENTORSHIP AT CLARK COLLEGE

Who knows what tomorrow will hold? Engaging in the student/teacher relationship can be like sending a wish to our future selves. We may think we know what the teacher is trying to explain or what the student actually comprehends. But ultimately, teaching art is building a relationship of trust and sharing goals for a better tomorrow, not rote memorization of a set of discrete facts.

This exhibition examines the student/teacher relationship within the Art Department at Clark College. Each faculty member was asked to choose a current or recently graduated student to exhibit work alongside them in the gallery. In this way, we encourage professionalism and continued artistic practice in our students and offer a glimpse of what it feels like to make, and exhibit work outside of the classroom. We welcome all students to this new tomorrow again and again and again, continually planting seeds to nurture our future selves.

Art at the Cave is donating 50% of all sales from this exhibition to Clark College Foundation. "The Day After Tomorrow: Art and Mentorship at Clark College" is the first of many collaborations between Clark College Arts programs, Clark College Foundation, and the community of Southwest Washington under the new Arts @ Clark initiative.
